Wow!! 3rd post for the day!!
It has been an amazing year, especially looking back through all the photos I've taken for my Project 365 on Facebook.. Watching my baby grow into a toddler, catching up and making wonderful new friends, experiencing new things and just enjoying life as a whole..
Here's wishing you all a very happy, safe and prosperous year ahead in 2012.. May it be filled with wonderful memories, friendships and all that you wish for.. xx

All I want....
Just a little wish list for myself (and hubby - *hint hint*) for the upcoming year..
- A wonderful 8+ hours of uninterrupted sleep - I haven't had this for over a year!
- My family and friends to be healthy and happy
- Lucas' to outgrow his allergies really soon
- Family holiday (having one in Feb to Brissie, but I do want to go overseas again somewhere)
- To continue to improve my photography skills
- Enrol in a photoshop course
- A Nikon 24-70 2.8 lens (the one I'm currently borrowing from Tom & Cathy)
- MagiMix or Kitchen Aid
- Laser eye surgery (maybe)
- Maybe a little sister or brother on the way for Lucas.. ;)
Monarto Zoo trip - from good to bad, in a matter of minutes...
I mentioned in a previous post that we were heading to Monarto Zoo on the 27th..
For those who are not familiar, Monarto Zoo is an open range zoo situated about 45mins drive from Adelaide.. It first opened to the public in 1993, and I remember going there in high school to plant trees.. It has changed and improved so much since then, and definitely a worth while experience if you have never been before..
Anyway, once you arrive at the gate and pay your entrance fee (or in our case, flash our cards as we had previously purchased a yearly zoo membership), you drive towards the visitors centre.. Here you are able to chat to the friendly staff, grab a bite to eat, check out the gift shop and also feel and touch some animal bones and skins..
Since we had been before in October, we didn't bother too much about that and headed quickly to the Zu-loop shuttle stop as we wanted to try and catch the giraffe keeper talk at 11am.. Unfortunately we missed the 1st bus, so had to wait another 15 minutes for the next one.. By the time this one came, it was too late for the keeper talk, but we did manage to see the black rhino, and zebras while on the bus and the giraffes up fairly close eating the last of the leaves on the big branch the keeper had put up... Lucas was totally fascinated with all the animals and couldn't stop staring.
Afterwards, we headed back on the next bus towards the white rhino and cheetah enclosures.. My sister and her family were waiting for us here as they missed the 1st bus we were on and headed straight to the rhino talk, skipping the giraffes..
So we caught up quickly, then took Lucas to see the rhino up close as well as the cheetahs before deciding to stop for lunch.. Our day took a turn for the worse here as Lucas was accidentally given a sakata which contained milk protein - Lucas is allergic to dairy..
That ended up with his face swelling up really quickly and him getting really distressed.. Luckily I had packed the Claratyne syrup and gave him a dose of it.. It seemed like it was getting worse after about 5 minutes, so we gave him another dose and quickly headed back to the shuttle stop.. We didn't have to wait long for the next bus, but when it came, I quickly asked the bus driver if he could call for some assistance, so we could get taken back to the Visitors Centre, in case it got even worse..
A zoo guide was passing by a minute later, and took us back in his 4wd, calling ahead for an ambulance.. However, by the time the ambulance got to the zoo, the antihistamine had kicked in and Lucas' swelling had subsided somewhat and he was definitely looking and feeling much better.. Still, the paramedics wanted to take him to the Murray Bridge Hospital for a quick check-up and observation, so I went with Lucas in the ambulance while Brian followed us in the car..
The nurse and doctor checked him over and everything was fine - the swelling had subsided by that time anyway and Lucas was happily looking around and playing with some toys..
These photos were taken with my iPhone, so aren't that great..
Definitely a scary experience and one which I do not hope to repeat ever again..

Christmas revisited
I thought I'd do a proper write up of my Christmas day with some more photos since I took so many!
It was forecasted to be 36 degrees with a afternoon change, so we adjusted our menu a little to accommodate the heat plus we didn't really have the time to prepare anything fancy.. So instead of a roast, we had bbq sausages, cold rolls, chicken patties, dips, chips and salad etc.. Everything went down well which was the most important thing, right? =)
Before anyone arrived, Brian blew up some balloons with the left over helium from Lucas' birthday party and we also added to Lucas' Lego Duplo Zoo collection with a Duplo Police Station for him. It was more of a hit compared to the Zoo as he loved playing with the police car.. We also gave him some matchbox cars and helicopters, which he unwrapped later..
My older sister, brother-in-law, nieces and nephew were the first to arrive at around 10.30 to help with the food prep, plus the children wanted to come over to play with all of Lucas' and Brian's awesome toys..
B, D & L came by on their way to their family lunch to drop off some toys for the kids also - Charlotte's gift was a Fashion Show set, so the guys helped Charlotte and Serena with setting up that up.. It was hilarious watching them trying to work out how to create the girls/models etc, as D didn't bother reading the instructions and it seemed a bit too complicated for a 7 year old, despite the recommended age on the box.. They eventually worked it out in the end..
The rest of the family arrived soon after midday, including Brian's parents and sister, so we started on our feast, Lucas woke up from his morning nap soon after we started, so I was lucky to be able to get a few mouthfuls in..
After lunch, I set up the tripod, camera and flash - it was the perfect opportunity to have some family photos done since everyone was there.. Here's one of each family, myself with all my siblings and one of my parents with Lucas, who surprisingly let them hold him for a good 10-15minutes before they left!
Brian's parents and sister left soon after also, so the rest of us just hung around our place playing kinect sports and lego star wars on the xbox 360, jenga etc.. We also went outside so the kids could blow bubbles, then later went for a walk down to the park as my brothers wanted to play a bit of cricket and the kids wanted to play at the playground.. The cool change had arrived by that time, so it was just lovely!

Busy, Busy..
The last few days have been very hectic for me with family catch-ups and all.. I don't think I'll have time to write up a proper post in the next couple of days either but I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas celebrating with family and friends like I did.. =)
I have taken around 1500 photos since yesterday and tomorrow will probably be another big photo taking day as we're heading to Monarto Zoo.. eeek!! That just means I need to sort through them all, fix them up or delete the duds (something I should do more of!!).. Well, fix them up as much as I can, via cropping and fixing lighting etc.. One of the things I do want to do next year is enrol in a photoshop editing course to learn how to enhance my photos and also remove background objects etc..
Anyway, here are just a few photos taken yesterday..
And some from today...

The "Essentials" & Cupcake Squishing
The rest of my family arrived this morning in time for the funeral on Saturday.. My nieces and nephew are seasoned travellers and knew exactly what "essentials" to pack for their visit.. Check it out!
Then just before we bathed Lucas this evening, we took him outside and gave him one of the cupcakes I made for him which are gluten and dairy free... He loved squishing the icing between his fingers but didn't really want to taste any of it.. He probably only ate one crumb - the dogs on the otherhand, loved it..

=(
My grandma passed away this afternoon.. We went to visit her yesterday morning and today she's gone.. Despite this sad news, at least it looks like all my brothers and sisters will be back home this Christmas.. RIP, grandma, hope you are in a better place now... xx
So when things are down, this little guy sure knows how to put a smile on my face.. Today he raided Brian's old Xbox 360 collection..

And yesterday, my little cheeky monkey decided today that banging on the window at the dogs was a fantastic game to play.. So while Brian made sure he was ok inside, I quickly ran outside to see take a few snaps of his antics.. I was rewarded with these cute shots of him..

Lucas' 1st Birthday
After a very busy couple of days cleaning, decluttering (didn't really finish either of these things), baking etc, Lucas' 1st Birthday party came together..
We debated for days whether to hold it inside or out as I got my wish for cooler weather.. However, I wasn't concise enough to wish for a cool, clear day, so instead I was 'rewarded' with wet and windy weather.. We do have a verandah at the back, but it does leak when it rains heavily, which it did on Saturday and the wind wouldn't have been good for the decorations.. In the end we decided to set up everything inside..
My sister came over for a few hours on Saturday and most of the day Sunday to help me out with the cooking and finishing off some of my last minute things.. Thanks for your wonderful help, E, sorry if I was a bit of a control freak at times!
The birthday boy was a little confused while we were busy setting everything up but loved seeing the bright "Happy Birthday Lucas" banner we hung up on the wall and also all the helium balloons that Brian blew up for the party..
At around 11.20am, Brian put Lucas to bed for his morning nap while we finished off the finishing touches.. I was really happy with how everything turned out in the end and we even had about half an hour before the guests arrived to have a quick break where I managed to take a few snaps of everything..
These are a few photos that Brian took during the party.. Lucas just loves his little friends, although, he did try to steal Stefan's amber necklace.. hehe..

At 12.50, I had to pop upstairs to wake and feed the birthday boy from his slumber before the party started. Luckily, he wasn't too grumpy about it and by the time I had finished, a few guests had already arrived..
I didn't really get much of a chance to take photos while the party was on, so my wonderful friend, Leah, took some for me.. and I'm sure that Hayley would have a few fantastic ones too.. ;) I can't wait to see some of them.. *hint hint* However, even I know that it would had been a very tough job, being inside and within a limited area.. So I have my fingers crossed..
Here are the best shots that I got from the photobooth that I set up, some were a bit blurry though.. Click on the photos for a larger view..
Oh, and as you can see - I decided on the green tree in the end.. Here's the end result - we had to put Lucas' finger print on today while he was sleeping..

Kris Kringle and Tent Building..
As you may remember from a week or two ago, I received my gift in the mail from my Kris Kringle.. Today was present opening day.. Yay!! I remembered just before I left for work, so quickly ripped open the package and took a couple of photos.. My KK sent me a scrumptious smelling bottle of hand lotion and a necklace.. Not sure if the necklace is 'me' though (sorry, KK).. It's just a bit too blingy and way confusing to work out what the best way to wear it is.. Nevertheless, thank you so much for taking the time and thought into buying these for me.. =)
Then after work today, Brian thought he'd try constructing the tent that Leah and Ben lent us last week.. After a bit of confusion and some direction from Lucas, he eventually got the first part up.. haha.. Hopefully we'll have a chance to use it soon..

Birthday Continued..
Lucas woke up at 7am yesterday for his birthday, so I fed and took him into bed with us.. We sang him Happy Birthday a couple of times and he was in awe - or it could have been our stinky morning breath! haha..
Afterwards, we got him changed (well half changed as Brian forgot to put his pants on him) and then showed him his first present - a Lego Duplo Zoo set.. He loved it! He crawled right on top of the box first to check out all the animals and bang on the box, then he started getting all the pieces out - of course he had to have a taste test of everything first though!
The second big present we gave him was a wading pool/ball pit.. He loves playing with the balls and banging them together, but was bored with it quite quickly, so we sat in it with him.. haha.. I think he enjoyed that part of it!
Unfortunately, by that time, I had to leave for work so I tried to organise to meet them both for lunch.. Lucas ended up sleeping for 2 and a half hours over lunch, and I had a meeting at 2pm, so I missed them.. :( So instead, grandma came over for a visit, then when Lucas woke up, they all headed out to Toys 'r' Us to get Lucas a new activity table..
I tried to leave work a little earlier too, but got stuck in traffic.. It was crazy (for Adelaide)! They had blocked off the expressway, so I had to take the detour, along with a hundred other cars.. By the time I got home, it was only about 10 minutes short of my usual time anyway! Oh well, at least Lucas was still full of beans, so we took the ball pit outside so I could take some more happy snaps..
Oh, and I received our special promotion edition of practical parenting magazine with Lucas as the cover model yesterday too.. As soon as he saw it, he crawled towards it, smiled and then kissed himself..

Then today, I took Lucas to Baby Bounce at the library - it had been so long since I last took him there that he was just staring at everyone for ages.. Eventually he got a bit more confident and grabbed a couple of the rattle eggs to hit together.. Before I left, I also took a photo of him in front of the Christmas tree there..

Happy Birthday, Lucas!!
I can't believe my little man is one today!! The past 12 months have just flown by and I love him more than words can express, but I'll try to anyway..
Lucas..
- I love the sound of your laughter..
- I love your cheeky smile and that little dimple on your cheek..
- I love it when your 6 front teeth (4 top and 2 bottom) show when you smile..
- I love watching you sleep - and when you smile and giggle in your sleep... I always wonder what you are dreaming of..
- I love all the cuddles and hugs you give me..
- I love the sloppy kisses..
- I love chasing you and seeing you scream in glee..
- I love that you think that tickling you with my feet is the best thing ever..
- I love it when you wave and then end up clapping your little hands together..
- Yes, I still love your little hands and feet, I can just eat you up..
- Your bott bott is just the cutest little tush ever - even when you fart.. heehee..
- You are such a spunk with your mohawk and all those little curls!
- I love your big round eyes - not so much when you should be sleeping though!
- you are just soooooo cute and I love you because you're you!
** More about his day tomorrow, I think!

Extracted!
I finally mananged to extract the splinter in my foot that I got while walking towards Cadence's party the other week.. Check out how big that thing was in comparison to a $2 coin!!
Lucas wasn't too impressed this arvo when I had to do some work.. Mr Clingy Pants was stuck on me for most of the day, so I tried to sit him in his swing and to do some work outside.. It didn't last very long as he got a bit curious to what I was doing behind him and started playing up..

Warm Fuzzies..
Received this screen print from a friend, definitely makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.. =)
So while Lucas was sleeping today, I thought I'd do a little bit more work on his party preparation and only managed to cut out this tree.. It's for his fingerprint guest tree.. I like the green design better, what do you guys think??

And what's a post without my little man? It has always been a huge challenge trying to get Lucas to eat his food, but at the moment, it hasn't been too much of an issue as long as the food is hot chips (these ones are home made) and possibly chicken bones.. lol..

Looks like it's going to be a nice day!
I have been checking the temperature everyday in the past week just to see what the weather will be like on Sunday for Lucas' birthday party.. I let out a silent whoop just before when I saw it.. It's going to be a lovely 27 degrees for his actual birthday and 26 for his party.. Not too bothered about the rain as I'm sure it will clear by the time his party starts at 1pm..
Anyway, this arvo after feeding Lucas his dinner and giving him a bath as he put food all through his hair and legs, we walked out to Cedar College to check out the Carols Alive event being held there.. I was amazed by how many people had turned out as we went a couple years ago, and there was no where near as many people..
Ooohhh.. the fireworks just went off for the Carols Alive event, unfortunately, that also woke Lucas up, so Brian decided to take him out of bed to experience his first fireworks display.. He loved it!

We ended up only spending about an hour there, checking out the stalls and taking a few photos as Lucas was tired and was due to go to bed soon after.. He had a good time though and even got a free prize from spinning the wheel..

Party Number 4..
Is done and dusted!! The next one is Lucas'!! Yikes!! I have hardly done any planning for it so I am silently panicking about it now.. actually, nah, I'm not really, I'm just doing what I usually do and leaving things until the last minute.. then I'll start panicking come Friday!!
Anyway, today after Lucas' swimming lesson and morning nap, we headed up to Belair National Park for Elke's big monster bash..
I've been hearing all about these little monster softies for weeks on Facebook, but seeing them in real life, was WOW!! Her very talented mum, Emma, made 70 (yes 70!!), of these little monsters for all the kiddies.. They were all individually sewn and stuffed.. It was such amazing work!!
Here's the birthday girl, Elke, with her parents and also enjoying some of that yummy cake!

Okay, I lie, we did spend a little time this arvo trying to clean up the back yard and pergola area ready for next week... So while we washed the windows and swept the ground, we sat Lucas in his swing.. It's nice to know that Indy has welcomed Lucas into the family by asking him to throw the ball for her.. lol.. I love Lucas' expression.. "What? What do you want me to do??"
And here's yesterday's photo of mine.. Lucas' new shoes came in the mail yesterday, they are just so cute on him!! He's never really worn socks (apart from on his hands to stop him from scratching and rubbing) or shoes before so he was definitely a bit unsure of having something on his feet, but hopefully he'll get use to it..

Sleeping Luskis..
Or not...
I might have to take back yesterday's teething comment as Lucas has been a pain to put to bed these past couple of days.. I just spent the last 2 hours with him and he's finally asleep now..
As soon as I put him in his cot and try to wrap him, he starts flipping over onto his stomach to crawl away.. Even after I've wrapped him, he still flips over and back continuously to loosen and get his arms out, then it's back to square one again.. The first three, maybe four times, were amusing, but after that, it just got annoying!!
So I took him out of his cot for about an hour to play for a while longer.. eventually I had to feed him to sleep and yeah, I had to put some teething gel on his gums.. Not sure if it helped or not though..
And here's a photo of him this arvo.. doesn't exactly look that comfy.. hehe..
Oh, I also had a bit of a scare today too.. I gave him a piece of watermelon when I went to prepare my lunch and heard him coughing/spluttering.. He swallowed a big chunk of watermelon and some of it must have gotten stuck in his throat and he couldn't swallow it or chuck it back up.. Luckily, he did end up swallowing it and was ok..
On a brighter note, I got my Kris Kringle present in the mail today! Can't wait to find out what it is, but I'll have to wait until the 16th when everyone else will be revealing what they received... yay!

Teeth!
I discovered another tooth this morning which looks like it just cut through Lucas' gums in the last day or two.. It's his top right molar (highlighted yellow in the pic below) and the first tooth since he was about 7 months old.. The ones highlighted pink are his current ones - the bottom two teeth came through at 4.5 months, then the top 4 came soon after.
I think I have been one of the lucky parents whos baby hasn't really been affected by teething pains (touch wood).. I wouldn't have noticed this tooth for a while if Lucas didn't want to bite my finger just before I put him to bed for his nap this morning..
Then this arvo I had to go to the shops to post something in the mail, and boy was it busy!! Lucas also refused to sit in his pram, so I popped him in my Ergo, but he still wasn't too happy.. So while in Target, I swapped a bar of soap he was refusing to let go for this batmobile..

Smiley Munchkin..
Brian took this series of shots while I was at work today and I couldn't choose which photo was better as I just love all 3 of them.. Actually, the first photo was probably my favourite, but who can resist more photos of my cute little boy? Besides, it's always half the battle to get him to smile for any photos at all, so to have 3 in a row is a triple bonus!!
He stayed at his grandparents place for a few hours this morning as Brian had to attend a conference in town, so needless to say when he got back, he was clingy as, but also very happy to see him..
He also loves this activity table.. I've borrowed it two times already from the toy library, might have to extend it again over the Christmas period.
Oh, and we just received another 1st birthday invitation last night for January!!
